A new guide by Stuart William Duguid

Stop wasting the last minutes of your day. Use them on purpose.

The Pendulum Method is a simple nightly routine. Listen to the slow tick-tock of a pendulum, repeat one short affirmation over and over, out loud if you can, and keep going until sleep takes over. One affirmation a night, the same one for at least a week. No special kit, no hour of meditation. Just the minutes you were going to spend lying in the dark anyway.

THE
Pendulum Method
Reprogram Your Mind in the Minutes Before Sleep
Stuart William Duguid

Most of us spend the ten or twenty minutes after the light goes off replaying the day: the awkward conversation, the bill, the worry about tomorrow. Then we drift off carrying it with us. This guide is about filling that time with something you actually chose.

My story

I've lived this. Now I'm doing it again, in the open.

About thirty years ago I saw a course advertised in a national newspaper. It cost £200, which was a huge amount of money back then. I bought it, put it to the test, and my life changed for the better.

I went on to spend ten years working in the Middle East: five in Oman and five in Dubai. Then the company I worked for went bust, and I was laid off.

So I'm back to doing the exercises. This guide is my own method, written in my own words from what I've lived, and I'll be sharing how it goes from here, as it happens.

How the method works

Four simple steps, every night

Once you've done it a few times you won't need to think about the steps at all. It just becomes what you do at bedtime.

1

Write your words

Have two short, believable affirmations, one for success and one for health, and pick one to start with. Only ever one a night, the same one for at least a week. The guide shows you how, with examples.

2

Start the tick

A pendulum clock, a metronome or a free app. Quiet and steady, at about 60 ticks a minute, with a timer if you can.

3

Settle and listen

Light off, usual sleeping position. Breathe and listen to the tick for a minute or two, and let your body soften.

4

Repeat until sleep

Say your one affirmation in time with the tick, a word or two per beat, out loud if you can. Keep repeating, gently, for as long as you can, and let them fade as sleep comes.

tick … tock … one word, or two, per beat

Who it's for

Is this for you?

It's a good fit if you…

  • lie awake replaying the day and want to use that time better
  • have tried affirmations but felt silly or lost the habit
  • want something simple you can start tonight with what you already own
  • like a clear plan to follow for 30 days
  • prefer an honest, down-to-earth guide to big promises

It isn't…

  • a treatment for insomnia, anxiety, depression or any other condition
  • a get-rich-quick scheme or a guarantee of any result
  • a replacement for your GP, a therapist or a financial adviser
  • something to listen to while driving or doing anything that needs your attention
Questions

Frequently asked questions

What format is it, and how do I get it?

It's a PDF ebook of 77 A5 pages. You'll get a download link straight after payment, on the order confirmation page and by email.

What can I read it on?

Any phone, tablet, e-reader or computer that opens PDFs. The worksheets are designed to be printed at home for your own personal use.

Do I need to buy a pendulum clock?

No. A free metronome app on your phone works fine. The guide covers clocks, metronomes, apps and small speakers, so you can choose what suits you.

Can I get a refund?

See the refunds and cancellation page. Because this is digital content delivered immediately, you'll be asked at checkout to agree to immediate access and to confirm you understand you lose your 14-day right to cancel once the download starts. This doesn't affect your statutory rights if the file is faulty or not as described.

Is this medical or psychological advice?

No. The guide describes a personal routine the author has used and found helpful. It's for general information only and isn't medical, psychological or financial advice. It isn't a treatment for any condition, including sleep problems. If you have concerns about your health or sleep, please speak to your GP. No particular results are promised.

How long does it take each night?

It fits into the time you already spend falling asleep. There's a little preparation before bed, then you simply repeat your one affirmation until you drift off.

Can I talk to the author?

Yes. Buyers get their first month in the members' community included, where you can share your progress and chat with me and other readers. After that, membership continues automatically at £5 a month until you cancel, and you can cancel any time. You can also send me a message. I read everything, and if I can reply, I will, but I can't promise how quickly, and I can't give medical, psychological or financial advice.

What happens after my included first month of membership?

Your membership continues automatically at £5 a month until you cancel. We'll email you a reminder at least 7 days before your first £5 payment, with the date, the amount and how to cancel. You can cancel any time, in a couple of clicks: from your account, using the link in your order email, or by emailing hello@pendulummethod.com. If you cancel before your included month ends, you won't be charged anything. If you cancel later, you keep access until the end of the month you've paid for, and no further payments are taken. You keep the guide either way. See how membership works.

Will there be updates?

Yes. I'm doing the method again now and posting honest updates on the My journey page. Members see them in the community too.
